About Us

Second Wind Consultants was founded on a single core belief: that better solutions exist for owners, sellers and business transactionalists across the entire business landscape.

Our Mission

Our solutions create value in times of growth and preserve value in times of distress.

Solutions for all businesses.
Not just the few.

Our mission is to create value in times of growth and preserve value in times of distress—for any business. Our solutions are driven by a core belief that there is a better way, and that advisory expertise is too important to remain the exclusive domain of only the largest corporations.

A better way,
in times of growth.

For too long, elite management or turnaround services have been staked in hourly fees that are prohibitive for all but the largest corporations. Consulting structured as a partnership is staked in success—not hourly fees—and is accessible to every business.

A better way,
in times that challenge.

Restructuring techniques that can resolve debt and preserve business value have been the exclusive domain of only the largest enterprises. All other businesses have been bound by the limited and irrational options of incurring further debt or facing the destruction of business value through bankruptcy.

Second Wind does not accept the proposition that only the largest businesses are “too big to fail.” Whether you’re a small businessperson or a CEO navigating the variables of a complex organization, the preservation of value, jobs, and economic activity is not only a better way, it’s a moral obligation.

A better way,
to stimulate the economy.

We continually perfect business solutions driven by a mission to create efficiencies in the business investment space, generate pristine opportunities for alternative lenders and preserve clients for trusted advisors. An alliance with Second Wind lets you discover opportunities where most see impossibilities and further stimulates economic activity, growth and employment by result.

Giving Thanks By Giving Back

Second Wind Consultants gives back in many ways—by giving our team members time to support the causes they believe in, by volunteering time to nonprofit projects, and by donating money to charities.

In the past, we have sponsored the following organizations to create meaningful change in our communities.

Aaron Todrin, President of Second Wind Consultants

Aaron Todrin is the President and Partner at Second Wind Consultants, where he leads the firm’s mission to preserve businesses and create economic value through innovative transactional debt restructurings. With a background as an attorney in the Federal Bankruptcy Courts in Boston, he has extensive experience in overcoming the limitations of traditional bankruptcy, guiding Second Wind to complete over 1,600 Article 9 restructures that have preserved jobs, protected assets, and strengthened the American economy.

Solving difficult business problems since 2008

Since 2008, Second Wind has helped owners, lenders, and advisors solve complex business problems by applying commercial solutions before courtroom solutions. We pioneered practical, out-of-court restructurings that align stakeholder interests, preserve going-concern value, and keep people working—whether the challenge is operational headwinds, burdensome debt, or the need to reposition a healthy business for its next phase of growth.

Today, our team partners nationwide to craft transactions that create clarity and speed where traditional processes stall. The result is measurable value preserved and created—assets protected, jobs sustained, and stronger businesses—delivered in a way that’s accessible to companies of every size.

Second Wind Timeline

2008

Founding

Second Wind Consultants is founded in Boston by a former bankruptcy attorney frustrated with how Chapter 11 restructures often collapsed into Chapter 7 liquidations. Too many viable businesses were being destroyed—value lost, jobs eliminated, creditors left with little recovery. Second Wind was created to pioneer a better, more efficient path to preserve going-concern value for small and midsize businesses.

2017

Leadership Transition

The firm passes to Aaron Todrin, the founder’s son and corporate counsel who became President of Second Wind. A practicing bankruptcy attorney himself, Aaron shared his father’s conviction that most businesses and communities were better served by restructuring debt commercially rather than judicially. He began reshaping the firm’s vision to preserve businesses, jobs, and economic activity that bankruptcy too often liquidates.

2018

Leadership Team Assembled

Second Wind’s core leadership team is established, including Martin Mahoney (COO), Jared Nudgent (Chief Consulting Officer), and Robert DiNozzi (Chief Growth Officer). With the team in place, Second Wind begins scaling its impact by educating not only debtors, but also lenders, attorneys, and advisors about non-judicial restructuring.

2019

Joining the TMA

Second Wind becomes a member of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA), the global nonprofit dedicated to corporate renewal, cementing its role as a thought leader in the turnaround and restructuring space.

2022

National Expansion

The firm grows to 35 employees nationwide, delivering restructuring services to businesses across industries and regions.

2023

Recognition and New Divisions

Named an Imagination Partner of the TMA, recognized as the leader in out-of-court resolutions through applications of commercial law rather than common law. Launches Rise Alliance, through the merger with Polaris Business Advisors, creating a dedicated division to address MCA distress and personal guaranty resolution. Rise Alliance scales to 45 consultants, giving small and Main Street businesses legitimate alternatives to predatory settlement schemes.

2024

Special Asset Solutions

Second Wind forms the Division of Special Asset Solutions, led by Sally C. Barton, formerly head of workout for KeyBank. This marks a new phase in aligning the interests of both lenders and borrowers, accelerating cooperative resolutions, and preserving more value while avoiding judicial processes.

2025

Industry Leadership

Second Wind emerges as the acknowledged pioneer and leader in Article 9 restructuring, forging strategic alliances across banking, secured finance, and restructuring. By this point, the firm is serving approximately 130 businesses per year in Article 9 transactions and hundreds more MCA borrowers through the Rise Alliance division.
